Hello hello and welcome back! Whether you're a longtime reader or coming here for the first time from the Marvelous Marie, I'm excited to see you! Thanks for checking out our hop. We've been excited to work on a bit of revamp and we can't wait for what's next!
With a new approach came the immediate desire to use one of our newest purchases, whatever that might be for each of us! It felt great to buy something and start using it so soon after purchase!
Now I will admit that I have been trying to practice self-restraint and really haven't added much to my stash. However, there was one set I seemed to see everywhere I looked and I was enamored with the projects people were making with it. It was the Tim Holtz Paper Cut Cafe set. This is a set of 5 different mugs/cups with saucers and steam. I love coffee and I love a good layering die, so when my birthday came around, I simply couldn't resist!
Except my birthday is always right at the start of a busy time at work, so I really didn't get to play with my new acquisition. Several times I would look longingly at it and dream of all the cool stuff I would make. But I was tired or distracted or pressed for time. You know this song well, I'm sure. I was delighted to finally be required to make time and make this:
This was overall a very simple card to make. Since I love having a cup of coffee or tea while I'm reading, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to use a page out of a damaged book that had been passed my way. I trimmed it down and ink blended the edges with brown ink. The cup is made with three different shades of pink: a dark pink, a subtly patterned pink, and finally a pale shade for the front highlights. I used the dark and middle shades for the saucer. The dark pink then worked as a lovely contrast border around the book page. I used the same brown for the coffee and the card base. I'd debated skipping the steam and the sentiment (I loved how simple the card front looked without them), but ultimately couldn't resist. The sentiment is from an older Hero Arts Monthly Hero Kit, stamped with the same brown I'd used to ink the edges. I blended a bit more over the sentiment as the white paper was a little too glaring against the book page.
I love how this card has turned out and I'm catching on that this is a very easy die set to mass produce with. Hang tight, because I might post about that soon!
