Hello hello and welcome back! Whether you're a longtime reader or coming here for the first time from the amazing Anna (who is wildly crafty and creative), I'm excited to see you! Thanks for checking out our hop where we make a project using a theme and technique or supply that we've randomly chosen. The challenge is fun, but the best part is getting to use some of those supplies we've had squirreled away for who knows how long!
After much discussion, we'd previously decided we would take July off. But Christmas in July is totally something we love! We couldn't skip midyear holiday cards! And nothing elicits the razzle dazzle of the holidays quite like foil! Whether it's a foil press or foiled papers, it was fair game!
I don't own a foil press, so I knew I'd be relying on foiled papers I have. And I knew I had a whole pad of them that I could bust out! A quick search and I found it! The unexpected result? I found a pad of paper I wanted to dip into even more!
Story time: a couple of months ago, we focused on the theme of alcohol inks. I love love love the alcohol ink backgrounds I see everywhere, but have yet to take the plunge and buy any. I was POSITIVE I'd bought this particular pad of paper, but I couldn't find it! I'd convinced myself that I'd ogled it and then responsibly put it back on the shelf. Turns out I'm just disorganized sometimes!
Here's what's great about this pad of paper: there is foiling on quite a few sheets, and it looks gorgeous! I found one that reminded me of a galaxy background and in a flash I knew which stamp set I would use. And that's how I got this:
I started by trimming the paper down into 6 card fronts (yes, I'm currently working on making a set of them). I then stamped the adorable Santa and Reindeer from the Hero Arts set Out of This World Christmas. I colored them up and then used the coordinating die cuts. I decided as amazing as the background was, I needed the images to pop just a smidge more, so I die cut two more of each shape out of white cardstock and glued them down. This makes the image just a little bit thicker and pop from the paper just a little bit. Then a quick rectangle for the sentiment and the finish line was in sight! Glue it down onto a 5.5"x4.25 card front and it is ready to go!
I used my Ohuhu markers and I know I still have some practice to do, but I'm getting happier with my coloring! I've listed the colors below for my Ohuhu fans (and me)!
I am always inspired by this hop, but this time I seemed to be on overdrive! I have SEVERAL more cards that tie into this theme, so be on the lookout for those! Best way to make sure you don't miss them? Subscribe! And while you're at it, you should subscribe to the entire Squirrel Squad! Even when they aren't hopping, they are designing amazing pieces every time! To prove it, hop over to your next stop, the magical Marie, whose cards are never "just another"!
Looking for those Ohuhu colors? For Santa, I used (darkest to lightest): R865, R687, and R588. His skin is R194 with RV193 on his cheeks. The bottom of his boots is CG140. The belt buckle and buttons are Y697, and the presents are G862, V460, and G472. The reindeer is (from darkest to lightest): E460, E355, and E363. On both helmets, I used CG021. And of course on boots, belt, and hooves, I used black.
