Welcome back everyone! Whether you're a longtime reader or coming here for the first time from the marvelous Marie, I'm excited to see you! Thanks for checking out our hop where we make a project using a theme and technique or supply that we've randomly chosen. The challenge is fun, but the best part is getting to use some of those supplies we've had squirreled away for who knows how long!
This month, we wanted to be a bit lighthearted and pair a little humor (including puns) with stencils.
The moment we picked this theme, I knew exactly what stamp and stencil I would use! I eagerly rushed to my stash and...
...Found out I didn't own that stamp! I briefly (BRIEFLY) considered going ahead and buying it. After all, if I already had one great idea for it, surely I have tons more! But of course that would not be in keeping with the intent of this hop. So I'm going need everyone to send me a medal now for resisting this urge!
Every story of great tragedy has to also include a great comeback. Lucky for me, the exact same stamp set where I thought I had The One stamp had a perfect stencil and stamp combo already! Right down to the sentiment! And that's how I got this simple little card:
This is a combo set I bought at Joann's some time back. I've used a couple of stamps and stencils from it already, but it's been quite a while and clearly it was time to bust it out! Because everything I needed was right there, I decided to keep everything simple about the card! First I used Hero Arts Taffy Pink ink and a blending brush to create the tangled string background. I decided to trim the card front down with a pair of pattern scissors that create an uneven jagged edge. I cut a slightly bigger pink mat and trimmed it with the same scissors, gluing the whole bit to a plain white card.
On a separate piece of cardstock, I stamped the cat hanging on by his murder mitts and then fussy cut him out. I glued him down so he looked like he was hanging from the tangled string mess. Finally, a very appropriate sentiment: "In my defense, I was left unsupervised." I've been there a few times.... And in no time at all, I had a funny card that will probably be an apology card at some point.
This hop always inspires me and some of my best work! But you know what inspires me even more? Seeing how the Squirrel Squad interpreted this theme! You're going to love it too, so be sure to keep hopping! The Squirrel Squad is a small group so the hop won't take you long, but will leave you feeling totally inspired! Next up: the crafty Karen!! If you love what we're doing, please leave a comment! We love it even more when you subscribe!
