Welcome to those of you coming from the amazing Anna, as well as those of you who regularly visit! Yep! The Squirrel Squad and I are back with another hop! As I'm sure you recall, each month we focus on a supply we've been squirreling away or a technique we haven't given a lot of time to. We also choose a theme to work around. This month we wanted to focus on Christmas cards with vellum! After a few panic-stricken days, inspiration struck!
I haven't worked with vellum much at all because all I can ever think about is making sure the adhesive isn't visible. That hyper focus doesn't exactly stir me to creative heights, but this has actually been well-timed considering I have been thinking about finding the opportunities that constraints provide. It wasn't too long before I landed on the idea of a flap of vellum that was cut long and folded over the back of the card.
I thought it would be a nice look to emboss the vellum flap, so I was delighted when I found this Darice snowflake embossing folder in my neglected-of-late stash of folders. I was a little worried the vellum would crack in the process, but I didn't seem to have any issues! I made sure to cut the piece longer than the card front so I would have an inch to fold over. Once I glued it down, I realized that it still wanted to flap up and I didn't really love that. I decided it would be easily fixed by adding a dot of glue in the center of some of the snowflakes and putting a sparkly sequin over the adhesive. This proves once again that most problems can be solved with bling! The sequins were a birthday gift from Karen (thank you!) that I've been hoarding for a year because they are so pretty! They were the perfect color to go along with this.
I'd also accidentally made the panel too short (math is hard sometimes I guess). To mask that, I simply cut a panel of white cardstock for a sentiment. Done and done!
I hope you enjoyed seeing my creations! There is WAY more inspiration to come! Just keep hopping along! Next stop: the brilliant and talented Karen (yes, gifter of sequins!)! if you love what we're doing, please leave a comment! We love it even more when you subscribe!
