Welcome to those of you coming from the amazing Lounon, as well as those of you who regularly visit! Yep! The Squirrel Squad and I are back with another hop! As I'm sure you recall, each month we focus on a supply we've been squirreling away or a technique we haven't given a lot of time to. We also choose a theme to work around. This month we were feeling thankful for our abundance of supplies and interests! It allowed us to try stitching on a card with a "thank you" theme!
I'm also extra excited about this project because I'm debuting a new invention of mine: the pocket slimline! All in all, this could not have been better timed for me. I have started a new job and wanted to make sure I had a stash of small thank you cards in my desk to give to coworkers and employees that report to me. Particularly in a new job, there are always people who are just so helpful and generous with their knowledge, time, and patience. These pocket slimlines are the perfect solution! I'll give you more details about that in a minute!
For now, let's focus on this card! I started by cutting a navy piece of cardstock to 4" x 2.5". I then went around the edge, poking pin holes every 5mm. Using 2 pieces of orange floss doubled over, I blanket stitched around the edge. I knew I wanted to use one of these speech bubbles from the Simon Says Stamp/CZ Design collaboration set All the Thanks. I stamped one in orange, die cut it, then used two rectangle nesting dies to trace around the bubble. I then just followed those lines with a paper piercing tool again (holes every 5mm) and zig zagged back and forth between the two rectangles. I finally did one backstitch border around the inner rectangle. I glued everything down and Ta-Da! A stitched Pocket slimline!
Hopefully you're pretty excited not just about this card, but about the idea of pocket slimlines in general! Ready to learn more? Well you're in luck! I've made a tutorial video that shows you how to make them, INCLUDING custom sized envelopes! I ramble on about some of the many reasons I love these cards! A good time is had by all and I can't wait to see this take off as the new trend! In the video, I feature the Hero Arts Hang In There Potted Plants.
