Welcome to those of you coming from the amazing Karen, as well as those of you who regularly visit! Yep! The Squirrel Squad and I are back with another hop! As I'm sure you recall, each month we focus on a supply we've been squirreling away or a technique we haven't given a lot of time to. We also choose a theme to work around. This month we were totally feeling the Christmas in July vibe! Acetate was the perfect supply to pair with this theme!
I will confess that the project you see today is not exactly the project I'd planned. Maybe one day the technique I was trying will be successful.... Anyway, I still wanted to stick with my original concept of creating an ornament instead of a card. Sometimes I like to remind myself of ways papercrafting supplies can be used besides cards and this felt like an ideal moment!
Acetate lends itself to a "shaker" element (acetate layered over foam or similar so there is space for sequins and such to move around the front when shaken). And obviously there was no way I couldn't lean into one of my all time favorite things: a snow globe! I'd had this Lawn Fawn set for quite a while, but hadn't really used it to its full potential! I got a bit closer with this project! I cut the background and front piece out of cardstock. I cut a matching front piece out of foam and a matching back piece out of acetate. The foam gave me the height for shaker bits. I then proceeded to use a few of the elements from the set (the snowy sky background, the snowman, and a couple of trees). I glued them all down and topped with the foam. I then poured in just a few of these snowflake shaker bits from a Hero Arts kit, glued the acetate and the front piece down, and I was set! Of course I colored each of the elements, but there were so few that it took no time at all! I really love how this came out and I am thrilled that it's so quick and easy!
There is WAY more inspiration to come! Just keep hopping along! Next stop: the brilliant and talented Anna! And if you love what we're doing, please leave a comment! We love it even more when you subscribe!
