Raise your hand if your New Year's resolutions including something like, "This is the year I get healthy!"
This is obviously not a bad goal, but it is hard to achieve in this format. Let's work together to set you up for success!
First, if you're saying it just because you feel like you ought to, save yourself the frustration. The goal is not right for you right now. Check in with this goal some other time.
Still here? Awesome! So let's start by making it a S.M.A.R.T. goal! If you're not familiar with S.M.A.R.T. goals, those are goals that are:
- Specific: Targeted area of improvement
- Measurable: Quantifiable indicators of progress and success
- Achievable: You can actually accomplish this goal
- Relevant: They align with your values, desires, and long-term goals
- Time-Bound: The deadline
So thinking about your goals in that way, you might find that they line up with certain categories.
If you want to move more: one of my favorite ways to make fitness a part of my day is step counting. It is discreet (unlike doing squats or clenching my butt while standing in line), it can be done in most "things" that you're wearing, and you can usually find a workout buddy (even virtually) who will meet the challenge with you. If you are looking for some initial structure to start step counting (and knock it right out of the ballpark), I believe this post will give you a great start! If you're looking for some challenges, check out my Proclaimers Challenge (as well as how I track my progress toward my daily 10,000 steps). You can up the challenge by adding in my Famous Stairs challenge while learning a little more about the world.
If you want to get stronger: As you can see, I like a goal to be quantifiable. I need to see I am reaching the end of the goal (or at least getting better). To help with that, I created a worksheet that you can read about and download for free here. Once you know where you need some strength improvement, you might be ready for Fitness Bingo. This is great solo, but even better with friends!
If you want to eat healthier: I'm happy to share a couple of recipes with you! Try my Chick Chow or my Honey Ginger Carrots.
If you are looking for ways to manage your stress: This is a very personal problem for me that I talk about here.
If you are ready to get back on a schedule again: 2020 caused havoc with everyone's world, including schedules. Here are some tips to help rectify that.
I can't wait to hear how these solutions help you move forward on your wellness goals!
