November 1 means I get to share another 2 Crafty Critter Crazies Design Team creation! This month we are working with The Paper Shelter!
The Paper Shelter shared the same image pack with each of us: My Little Dragon Army. This is actually a healthy little bundle! When you download it, you can choose to use the black and white image, the pre-colored image, the background paper, or the pre-colored image on the background paper. I had a hard time choosing, but I liked the full image so much, I decided to use the pre-colored image on the background paper!
But of course I always need to add my own spin. I decided to print the image out to 5" square. to cover the remaining white paper, I grabbed a piece of antique paper salvaged from an old scrapbook. I trimmed it down to 5.5" square then used a piece of sandpaper to rough the edges and force it to tear. After that, I simply used a dark brown inkpad along the edges and made sure to catch each of the tears in the paper. I wanted it to look like it had been singed by fire. Surely a dragon that small would need a little practice on controlling its flame, right?
I then couldn't resist adding some extra dimension and texture to the image itself. In the following closeups, you'll see I colored all the gold with a gel pen, added silver accents to the sword and shield with a gel pen, then added lots of little gems onto the studs on her helmet, cuff, shoes, and sword. Not one to leave the dragon out, I added gold to the fire, his wings, and his spots.
Thanks for visiting and reading! Please check out the other awesome contributions by the design team this month and be sure to support The Paper Shelter!
