No list of rum drinks would be complete without the Pina Colada. More than just a catchy 1970s song, this drink mixes some powerhouse flavors for a sweet, satisfying sipper!
I honestly think the first I knew about pina coladas came from the Rupert Holmes song Escape (The Pina Colada Song). As seems to be a trend in my childhood life, I presumed that this was another very defining adult thing, so when I noted a pina colada snow cone flavor, I had to have it. While not my favorite snow cone, I would still occasionally choose it, just to stay in practice. When I finally graduated to real pina coladas with alcohol, I found them to be much more tempting!
Much like the daiquiri, these have become an adult slushy for many people and that's perfectly fine! That is quite the tasty version! But for an authentic flavor, they are actually shaken. And, made with pineapple juice and coconut cream, it's almost like a healthy smoothie! (You buying that? Yeah, me neither.)
To make the original version, you will need:
2 ozs. rum
6 ozs. pineapple juice
2 ozs. coconut cream
Ice for the cocktail shaker and glass
You will also need some basic barware. For this, you will need:
A shot glass with actual .5 ounce markings
A cocktail shaker
A highball glass for serving
Simply pour all the ingredients into an ice-filled cocktail shaker and shake like a sassy maraca! Strain the contents into an ice-filled glass. You can garnish with pineapple pieces and cherries if you're feeling like all that, but I guarantee you'll enjoy it just as much without them!
