Recently, I posted several pictures to Instagram and my personal Facebook page of some molded chocolates I'd made. The reactions were swift and insistent: when would I be shipping those out to friends across the country?
Here's the thing, though: shipping chocolates is risky business, and not one I'm particularly interested in getting involved with. But you know what I do love? Teaching people how to do something, particularly when it's so easy! In that vein, I have decided to create this series that walks you through some of the basic ways to make your own chocolate creations.
Here's what you need to know:
- the ingredients are really easy to get! The grocery store, the craft store, or even Amazon
- the equipment is basic: no candy thermometer needed!
- the process is not time-consuming, so no need to argue that you don't have time and that I should just ship these to you
Today we start with the simplest of all chocolate creations: chocolate bark.
I've created a video to walk you through the process, but I assure you it is so easy. Simply melt the chocolate then spread it on wax paper. Pick your topping and sprinkle it over the chocolate (pressing it in some is a good idea).
You can choose any toppings you want and as many as you want! I chose diced up dried apricot for this, but the sky is the limit. That's what makes bark so great: whatever you love with chocolate, whatever theme you want to dress this up for, bark is here for you. It's not judging the three kinds of chocolate topping. It's not asking if you're sure those flavors go together. It accepts. It understands. The only question it asks is why you haven't made any yet. So sit down and watch the video then head to your kitchen. You can thank me later!
