As we close down the month of July and our focus on gin, I wanted to share a drink that brings back an alcohol we haven't worked with much lately. With just a touch of Chambord, you will have a drink that is both sweet and tart, complex yet refreshing, and loads easier than the usual version of this drink. Say goodbye to July with The Bramble!
In typical versions of the bramble, you start by muddling some blackberries in the bottom of a glass, shaking together your other ingredients, including a blackberry liquor, and then pouring on top. Now of course this is delicious and, in the summer months, a fairly easy thing to do. But I enjoy a bramble at any time of year and don't want to rely on overpriced, out-of-season blackberries or their frozen friends. I found that I wanted to add more sweetness as well. I'm also, at heart, a rather lazy mixologist when left to my own devices, so this creation was born.
All you need are:
1.5 oz gin
1.5 oz Chambord
1 oz lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
Ice for the cocktail shaker
You will also need some basic barware. For this, you will need:
A shot glass with actual .5 ounce markings
A cocktail shaker
A martini glass
Preparation is, as always, so simple.
Simply pour all your ingredients into the cocktail shaker and shake until summer comes roaring back into your house (or the shaker gets good and frosty, a more logical measure of the moment).
Within a sip or two, you are transported to a languid summer evening with lightening bugs flickering into twilight and the cheerful chirp of a chorus of crickets. If this does not happen, promptly prepare a second glass!
Of course summer is better when spent with friends, so share this recipe with them!
Cheers! Salud! Prost! Slainte! Soupy twist!
