All good things must come to an end. So must it be with our focus on whiskey. Next Monday's post will be devoted to something not even related to alcohol, then July begins and it's time to choose a new flavor to savor. But enough about the future! Our moment is now and this moment belongs to the Whiskey Sour.
Think of the Whiskey Sour as lemonade with sass! It has the kick of whiskey and the tartness of lemon and not a shred of apology. Think of it also as tasting another bit of history. There are many variations, but this is the one considered a classic! Be sure to use the cocktail shaker on this one. You want that ice to help shape the flavor of the drink.
To make your day a little more sour (in the best possible way), you will need:
2 oz. whiskey (blended or bourbon are the typical takes here)
Scant 1 oz. lemon juice
.5 oz. simple syrup
Ice for shaking and for the glass
You will also need some basic barware. For this, you will need:
A shot glass with actual .5 ounce markings
A cocktail shaker
A tumbler for serving
As always, prep is simple! In your ice-filled shaker, combine the whiskey, lemon juice, and simple syrup. rattle it all together until the shaker is frosty. Pour it up and slide it across the bar to your favorite customer. Psst: that would be you.
Now certainly you could garnish this with a slice of lemon or a maraschino cherry, but those are by no means required. And you know how infrequently I go for that stuff personally.
Classy and Sassy! Just like me!
The drink may be sour, but sharing is sweet!
Cheers! Salud! Prost! Slainte! Soupy twist!
