Ah... The Mint Julep. A drink that both cools and kicks. This drink serves as the signal to the start of May, summers on a porch with a fan, and as the official potent potable of the Kentucky Derby. Traditionally served in a frosty silver cup, it's hard not to put a pinky out and a "y'all" in.

When last we spoke of Mix It Mondays, I'd just put the briefest treatise of whiskey up, fully planning a monthlong ode to a favorite brown drink. Oh how naïve that feels now in a pandemic world. But you know what goes great with wistfulness? Whiskey. Specifically, a whiskey mixed into a cocktail that, historically, has seen some stuff: the Old-Fashioned.
Well, if there's one thing I can say about 2020, it's that this year has led to me leading a completely different life from anything I've ever led before.
I was so lucky. When I told my grandparents I was pursuing a career in theatre, they were delighted and supportive. Theatre had always been a part of our lives, a shared passion. While many families balk at a “frivolous” career in the arts, mine couldn’t have been more proud. They lauded it as a wise decision. They told me is that theatre is essential and that theatre survives.
