Day 9 and the countdown is getting serious. You might be starting to get REALLY interested in something simple you can whip out.
Well have no fear: Rice Krispy Treats are here!
I love these easy little treats so much, but I wanted them to be themed. I tossed around a lot of ideas, but in the end, I went with the simplest: just making them heart shaped. So let's cut to the moment after you've let them cool some. Remove the whole parchment sheet from your baking dish and grab a big simple heart cookie cutter. Press it into the treats just like you would into dough.
It's not really going to give you the smoothest cut, so you'll have to start pulling some of the surrounding treat away from the cookie cutter.
Finally, push the treat upwards through the cutter. This will help finalize the shape as it continues to rest on the parchment, a plate, or wherever you leave it.
Now if you're guessing ahead, you're wondering what happened to the scraps. Easy! Just ball them up and reshape them into a flattened rectangle again and you can cut another batch! Depending on the size of the cookie cuter, you can get about as many of the treats out of a batch as you would if you just cut them into rectangles. When it gets too small or unwieldy to cut anymore, just eat the scraps! Go ahead! There aren't any calories in the scraps!
Now of course you can add candy coating, sprinkles, frosting, as well as the usual mix-ins. But sometimes you're just feeling hopelessly pedantic and just want a plain treat in a fun shape.
See you tomorrow for another exciting day of love (mixed with Mix It Monday)!
