Raise your hand if you've ever said:
- This is the year I lose weight.
- This is the year I run a marathon.
- This is the year I don't just get started and then quit.
- This is the year I rock bathing suit season
I have to be honest: I have not met many people who haven't made at least one of those declarations. I know I'm not immune. And why shouldn't we expect such things of ourselves? These are not bad goals. But they are often spoken by people who are new to fitness or who make the goal because they feel like they should.
If you're saying it just because you feel like you ought to, save yourself the frustration right now. The goal is not right for you right now. Check in with these goals some other time!
However, if you're like me and a fitness-based goal feels right for you right now, I want to share a couple of my favorite personal posts that have helped me.
For me, I like a goal to be quantifiable. I need to see I am reaching the end of the goal (or at least getting better). To help with that, I created a worksheet that you can read about and download for free here.
One of my favorite ways to make fitness a part of my day is step counting. It is discreet (unlike doing squats or clenching my butt while standing in line), it can be done in most "things" that you're wearing, and you can usually find a work buddy who will go for a walk with you. Maybe you'll even start having walking meetings with some of your coworkers! If you are looking for some initial structure to start step counting (and knock it right out of the ballpark), I believe this post will give you a great start!
I can't wait to hear how these solutions help you move forward on your wellness goals!
